I keep going back to landscape painting. The landscapes of the south of France are inspiring. Mountain views across the alps in Provence, distant viws of the Pyrenees in the Aude. In the Hérault Pic Saint Loup rises in solitary majesty on the plain between the sea and the Cévennes. The landscape is wilder than anything I am used to in Britain - even the dark mountains of Wales don't have the scale or the colour.
